When people speak of executive suites, they think of a large private office, with a huge crescent table at the center, a lazy-boy, a picture window depicting a gorgeous view of the city, several paintings and potted plants, and a top-of-the-line computer. Executive is a word that adds power to the word it attaches itself to, and combine it with the word suites (which depicts a room in all its luxurious finery), then you will have an elegant, sophisticated image popping up in your mind.

There are different types of executive suites, depending on the purpose and the actual person who will be using said suite. Some suites are designed for agents, others for tenants; still others are for operators. A common misconception of executive suites is that they are only meant for people in positions of power, hence the term executive. This is not the case. United States Executive Order 9066


The Executive Order 9066 of the United States is a presidential executive order that had been issued during the second world war, by the then U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt. The order was issued on February 19, 1942, using the president’s authority as commander-in-chief which stipulated the right to exercise war powers and sent ethnic groups to internment camps.

The order included authorization of the U.S. armed forces commanders to declare specific areas of the United States as military areas, which means any or all persons may be excluded. At the around the end of the war the total military area reached to almost 1/3 of the whole U.S. land area, with significant portions in the west. These military areas were used against those with foreign enemy ancestry. In the context of the second world war, all residents of America with Japanese, Italian and German ancestry were moved to said military areas.

This order had resulted to the Japanese American Internment, where approximately 120,000 ethnic Japanese people were kept in internment camps during the war. Of all interned Japanese, around 62% were American born, second generation Japanese American and third-generation Japanese American. The rest were Japanese immigrants and resident foreigners, or first generation Japanese Americans.

Henry L. Stimson, the secretary of war back then was assigned to assist residents of such military areas that were excluded, with transportation, shelter, food, and other forms of accommodations.

Notably, it is the Americans of Japanese ancestry that have been most affected, because all people with Japanese Ancestry were removed from the west coast and souther Arizona, even orphan infants. However, the distant state Hawaii, who housed and political reasons. Moreover, the Japanese were only vulnerable when they’re on the mainland. Granted, Germans and Italians were also included, though their restrictions were much laxer. The race issue was still a prevalent one, as Americans claim to have different methods when dealing with the three races.

Executive Order 11246

The Executive Order 11246 was the famous law signed by President Lyndon B. Johnson on 24th of September 1965. The Executive order advocates the practice of equal employment opportunity. It expressly stipulates that it is prohibited for federal contractors and federally assisted construction contractors and subcontractors, especially those who do over $10,000 in government business in one year, to discriminate employment choices based on race, color, religion, gender and nationality. Moreover, contractors are required to “take positive action” so as to ensure that their applicants are employed, and that employees must be treated equally during employment without regard to race, color, nationality, religion or sex.

This order was intended to follow up Executive Order 10479, which was signed by former president Dwight D. Eisenhower on the 13th of August 1953, which had established the anti-discrimination Committee on Government Contracts. Discrimination was a huge issue back then and this particular executive order had been amended by six subsequent executive orders.

Going back to Executive Order 11246, the stipulations of the order had required contractors to make affirmative actions that would increase the participation of minorities and women in the workplace, though not necessarily favoring them above everyone else. Following federal regulations, affirmative action plans consist of an explicit equal opportunity policy statement, a detailed analysis of the current working force, the recognition of problematic areas, the creation of objectives and schedules for increasing and improving employment opportunities, particular action-oriented programs which address problem areas, providing support for community action programs, and finally, organizing and implementing and internal audit and reporting system.

He/she must also settle for nothing less than perfect; in an ideal world, 99% is not good enough, because 1% is still missing. There is no good enough, it’s either completely successful or it fails.

A leader’s job can be strenuous and stressful so an excellent grasp on time management is a definite must so as to enable to get more things done in less time, always an advantage when it comes to working on a set time line. The executive leader is also ideally well-connected in the business and possesses adequate knowledge of the market.

Executive leaders must keep their integrity with them at all times. If they make a promise or commitment, they have to stick to it. Likewise, the executive leader must also be firm with his/her convictions. He should be firm with his members– praise those who are doing a good job and apprehend those who don’t reach the set of expectations he had given. Being a leader means identifying the best candidates for the position and weeding out the unqualified ones.

Lastly, an executive leader has a vision, one that is doable and can take off successfully. He/she must be focused on achieving their goals, and must put duty before self. As all leaders go, a good leader knows how to serve first and foremost and being in the upper crusts of the corporate food chain doesn’t change that.
